Math facts timed tests

A timed test shows how quickly a child recalls facts, which is different from whether they can work them out. Used once a week with the same page, it is a simple way to see progress.

We have five timed test pages, each one page with an answer key: Addition Within 10 (30 facts, kindergarten), Addition Within 20 (30 facts, 1st grade), Addition and Subtraction Within 100 (30 mixed two-digit problems, 2nd grade), Multiplication Facts 0-12 (40 facts, 3rd grade) and Division Facts (30 facts with divisors 1 to 12, 3rd grade).

Timed tests work best after accuracy is solid. If a child is still counting on fingers, practice the facts untimed first.

• Use the same page each week and compare scores, not children.
