Weighted grades (for example tests 50%, homework 30%, classwork 20%) are fair but tedious to calculate by hand.

The Teacher Gradebook handles one class of up to 40 students and 60 assignments. Set grading categories and weights once, add students and assignments, then type scores into one grid. Each student's weighted average, letter grade and missing-work count update as you go. The class dashboard shows class average, highest and lowest, passing rate, a grade distribution chart and a list of students to check in with.

Works in Excel and Google Sheets.

What you get

You get two files, a blank template and a filled-in example, plus a Start Here guide. Open them in Microsoft Excel, or upload them to Google Drive and open them with Google Sheets (free). You type in the input cells; the formulas, totals and charts update themselves.

• Set weights before entering any scores.
• Enter scores weekly to spot missing work early.
